Individual Therapy:
Individual therapy is a place where you can focus on yourself and the problems that keep you from feeling at peace with your life. Clarity’s approach in treatment is primarily cognitive-behavioral, interpersonal, and a focus on DBT skills. We believe that a strong client-therapist relationship is essential to creating a space where you can feel confident challenging thoughts and beliefs that keep you stuck. We emphasize the development of skills such as mindfulness, distress tolerance, and emotion regulation. Some of our providers received training in DBT, a powerful intervention for eating disorder treatment. DBT is beneficial for anxiety, trauma, self-harm, stress management, and other emotional struggles. Ultimately, therapy is individualized to meet your specific needs, and geared toward helping you to achieve your desired outcome in a safe and confidential environment.

Family Therapy:

Family therapy offers a safe space to work on communication and to work together as a family to grow together with whatever challenge is present.  In family therapy, the entire family is encouraged to work together to not label or target one person as the "problem" but together to work as a team in identifying and expressing individual and collective needs.  The therapist is there to counsel, mediate, and educate while empowering individuals to express thoughts, feelings and talk on agreed upon goals.  Family therapy, like individual therapy is individualized to meet your specific needs, and we will work with you to create a safe environment to express yourself to achieve family goals and grow as a whole.

Group Therapy:

Group therapy is an evidenced based practice that can provide support, education, and skills.  Group therapy offers a safe and confidential environment where people can come together with other individuals who are going through something similar to connect.  Group therapy can be used to add more support if someone is looking for skills or a safe place to process with like minded individuals, or it can provide additional support to individual and or family work.  Two minds are greater then one and three are greater then two.  There is power in numbers, and the support that is offered and received in a group setting is powerful and meaningful.

Virtual Therapy:

Virtual therapy is a great alternative to individual therapy and a necessity due to COVID-19.  In today's fast paced society many people are wanting or needing more support, but struggle to find the time.  Virtual therapy is a bridge so that you can receive the quality care you are looking for without having to commute to an office.  It is certainly a new way to receive therapy, but many of our clients prefer virtual sessions over in person simply because the quality of the session is no different, but the flexibility is just what they are needing.  Clarity uses ZOOM and our therapists have received formal training and have been providing this form of therapy for over a decade.

EMDR Treatment:

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a psychotherapy created by Dr. Francine Shapiro in the late 1980’s and has been a primary method of treatment for veterans and first responders who are experiencing PTSD symptoms in response to trauma for many years. What we are learning is that this treatment is powerful for many different symptoms of trauma.  This trauma treatment enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of overwhelming life experiences. Therefore, abuse and neglect, anxiety, eating disorders, dissociation, substance abuse, and emotional dysregulation (to name a few) can all be treated with EMDR.

Unlike other psychotherapies, it is not necessary to deeply disclose the events of the distressing events or memories.  The brain’s desire for balance does the work for the individual, so this is a treatment where you are not talking about the events in detail but through dual attention stimulation (right brain, left brain exercises), the brain and the body start to heal.  Please know that Clarity is offering EMDR treatment at the Gainesville and Reston locations and can also offer virtual EMDR for those who prefer doing this important work in the safety of their home.  If you would like to learn more or make an appointment with our EMDR therapist, Kaitlin Westerman, LCSW, please feel free to contact us.
